Get Physical will put out their 100th release celebration record, GPM100 on the 26th of November.
Get Physcal, the record label that specialises in releasing dance music by such artists as Booka Shade and Matthew Dear have reached a century of releases. Get Physical has been around for just four years but has already had a huge impact on the global club scene with their ‘physical’ dance records.
Their only prerequisite for releases reads: Club compatibility is an absolute must, as is a penchant for the atmospheric and an emotional intensity which invariably hit the nerve of the boiling dancefloor.
Get Physical was voted the label of the year by DJ Mag in 2005, which is a good measure of their success.
GPM100, the title of Get Physical’s landmark release, comprises of nine ‘battle’ tracks from their best known artists and produces along with new Get Physical signings. GPM100 will be released on vinyl (6 tracks) and on digital download.
The GPM100 selection captures the electro club scene on record and the kind of pulsating, innovative deejaying that is often absent on normal dance records. Tracks like ‘Dubai’ and ‘May Contain Nuts’ are beat-driven electro psych songs, whilst ‘Zillion Lights’, is a much more ethereal, pinging repetition occasionally breaking into a spaced-out vocals.
Most of the mixes come in at around the eight minute mark, and really get that sweaty, epic all-out feeling of the dancefloor. The track ‘Gin’, for example is a fast moving drum track with more focus on rhythm that sound.
The style remains fairly similar throughout GPM100– a conventional sort of 21st century dance mix – though there are a couple of tracks that break the mould a little, showing Get Physical’s new move to open out to different genres. The Italoboyz mix with Nôze is a mix of almost samba drums, weird reverberating voices and jazzy dance music. It sounds not unlike a trip in a club in Brazil. Equally the Lopazz vs. Heidi track is a lot more grimy and warped than others and appears less suited to the dancefloor.
