After last month’s post-Lovebox knees up with the inimitable Andrew Weatherall and Optimo, the Flash return to their shiny new Cable home for yet another outrageously well-equipped party.
Joining Messrs Saul and Congreve in Room 1 this week are two unquestionable pioneers of modern leftfield house and techno. Headlining is the schizophrenic and enigmatic curveball that is DJ Koze. Since emerging in 1999 Koze has tried his hand at an unfathomable number of styles and recorded for some of the very best envelope pushers along the way, including: Philpot, Freude-Tanzen, Warp and of course Kompakt – his spiritual home.
Hamburg jock, Koze is pure unhinged genius, as any self respecting electronic music fan will already know, his music always defiantly different but incredibly infectious and of course damn well danceable.
Second in command tonight is anothe Hamburg ressie – Dial Records main man Lawerence. Lawrence himself tackles influence far beyond the usual musical mantra – Ride, Brian Eno, Talk Talk and Gravenhurst are all cited amongst his key influences – so it’s little wonder his sets emit a haunting beauty and sumptuous atmosphere like no other. Without doubt one of the most exciting and important DJs of our time, not to be missed.
If you’re after something a little more eclectic and even further left of centre – then Room 2 is where you should be, joining our very own Matt Waites and Sean Johnston is the legendary Maurice Fulton. Often plonked somewhat carelessly into the disco bracket, Maurice is, in all honesty, nigh on impossible to categorise.
Fulton’s wonderfully eccentric approach to programming, seguing and crowd-pleasing makes for one of the most individual and intoxicating DJ’s around. Pure enigma this man – we can’t wait.
