Florian Schneider finally quits Kraftwerk

Terry Lane - Wednesday 14.01.09, 14:43pm

Co-founding member of Kraftwerk, Florian Schneider has left Kraftwerk.  He formed Kraftwerk alonog with Ralf Hütter in Düsseldorf in 1970.

Kraftwerk received UK commercial success and critical acclaim with their fourth album Autobahn in 1974.  The title track was over 22 minutes long which was edited to 3 minutes and became their first hit single in both the UK and United States.

Further critical acclaim and success came with the release of albums such as Trans-Europe Express (1977) The Man Machine (1978).  And amongst the synth pop of the early 1980’s Kraftwerk had their only UK number 1 hit single with The Model.

Kraftwerk’s music continued to influence and help shape dance music from hip hop to Electro and Techno, but since 1986 and the release of their last studio album Electric Cafe, they have only released live and remix recordings.

Nevertheless, I was sad to hear of Florian Schneider’s departure from one of the most influential bands on the history of modern music, and me personally.
