Damian Lazarus: Moment

Damian Lazarus is a name that has always been associated with innovation and quality in the international dance community.

Moment’ is a preview of his upcoming 12” ‘Smoke The Monster Out’ which will appear on Get Physical records in May. It marks both a continuation of his previous styles whilst engineering a clever change in style.

Moment opens with a simple ditty on the piano and a childlike melody (Damian Lazarus’s own voice) singing “Let’s bring this moment to life.” There’s a nice naivety and simplicity about it which becomes darker with the appearance of keyboards and synths.

Finally this early motif is replaced by a minimalist slow-beat dream track, with a female voice (Taxi Taxi) complementing some nice ambient electronica. The diversity continues as the track breaks down into some discordant brassy sounds and the warped and melted-together voices of Lazarus and Taxi Taxi.

This is a step away from the regular set of the house/techno DJ, and is a really high-quality, diverse and innovative piece of electronica that fuses his techno influences with minimalism and original melodic motifs, and bodes well for Lazarus’s full-length in May.

Moment’ is out on Get Physical on the 4th February.
