The excellent Moscow DJ Producer and owner of the DAR label, Denis A recently launched a digital offshoot of the label called DAR Digital, which will focus primarily on discovering new talent in the world of electronic music.

The main purpose of the digital offshoot however is to release high quality, interesting sounds as can be found on DAR Digital’s first release, the double header Igor Cold v Gvozdini, She’s So Spacey/ Cosmic Breath released at the end of last month.

Not one to hang around, Denis A releases the second single on DAR Digital this month in the form of another double A sided effort featuring emerging artists Responz and Taboo.

Responz are a duo of talented musicians from Moscow - Grigory Fatyanov and Roman Ponomarenko. Each has worked both as solo artists and collaborated in various projects, previous to this meeting of minds as Responz. They have been interested to see how this experiment will work, bringing together their expansive accumulated experiences in the studio.

Word of this project is already spreading like wildfire through the new Russian electronic scene, and is set to spread worldwide with the release of Agnostic on Denis A’s new DAR Digital label.

From the aural firecracker of the percussive intro, Agnostic builds layer upon layer of moody groove-a-delic mastery, with mysterious dubbed out vocals drifting in and out of the deeply hypnotic rhythms. This is a stunning opener from Responz that deserves your ear time!

Taboo aka Matveev Gennadiy and Topalov Konstantin, is born from the desire to explore the possibilities of experimenting with the blueprint of sounds from the huge expanse of modern club music. It has united two young sound producers from the city of Odessa in the Ukraine.

Taboo is a creative experiment, a hobby which in due course has become an obsession. Both Gennadiv and Konstantin are adamant that this project doesn’t pursue any strict commercial objectives and places emphasis on the
process of creativity.

They are searching to create something not restricted by the framework of modern music and The 10 Month Liar is part of that jigsaw. This is the bold end of the spectrum where darkness can be seen as enlightened. Only when complete can the picture be fully appreciated.

RESPONZ / TABOO
Agnostic / The 10 Month Liar

DJ Producer Diarmaid O Meara has had a busy 2010 even by his own standards, having released close to thirty tracks across a dozen labels.

But that is only a small part of the story, the explosion of his Gobsmacked label which is gearing up for its 70th release, the kick off and wide broadcasting of Gobsmacked’s new Podcast Series, guestings on some of the worlds top Techno shows, the dropping of his critically acclaimed Structured Noise album and more gigs than you can shake a stick at, has kept the the young man more than occupied during the past year.

But he has no plans to ease the load as we get closer t0 2011 as he already has around a dozen releases planned for the early part of the year, including a remix of one of the biggest Techno tracks of all time ‘Space DJz Ak47’.

You should also look out for his own remix release which will include almost two dozen global producers and hero’s, as well as his label Gobsmacked looking to celebrate its 100th release by the end of 2011.

Gobsmacked Sessions, the podcast series/radio broadcast show started alongside other Gobsmacked member Luke Creed has been gaining momentum with growing re-broadcasts on FM and digi stations worldwide. Not to mention, the kicking off of the new Gobsmacked Mastering service in conjunction with Neptune Studio’s Berlin and the legendary Patrick DSP.

It has been a steady journey for the Irish Techno peddler since the release of his first vinyl in 2006, and ever since his style has grabbed the attention of those that matter, his peers in the dance music industry and the club goers who make the whole thing worthwhile.

The legend has grown in those few years thanks to regular track support from Dave Clarke, Dj Rush, Cj Bolland and countless giants of electronic music, almost constant airplay across UK and European radio stations, including BBC Radio 1, White Noise, ATL Dance Show, Absolute Technoise, RTE Radio, KISS FM, NRJ Radio, DI – FM, XFM while also guest mixing and broadcasting exclusive sessions for most of these stations and many more including White Noise, Clash Music Magazine’s Series, Dr Hoffmanns Blindspot, Mastertraxx etc and bringing his intense mixing style to clubs and radios across Europe.

Live European dates have seen Diarmaid performing in all the major cities, with regular appearances in Berlin which is his current stomping ground.

As a special thank you to his fans Diarmaid O Meara is giving away a free download of the track Basswhore, which will be available from now until February 10th 2011.

The excellent Balance series reaches number seventeen and this double CD collection mix from Timo Maas continues the extremely high standard set from day one by his predecessors.

Timo Maas is an artist who will succeed at whatever he puts his hand to, and his next move is always highly anticipated. Behind the decks, he packs one of the hardest punches around, pulling you inside his hypnotic world and
creating sets that live, breath and thump as one cohesive, gargantuan entity. So dedicated is he to his craft that he’s built a club on his own land – a Funktion One-packed barn next to his farmhouse in Germany where
he rigorously tests out his newest productions and finds. Only a DJ and producer as innovative, technically brilliant and downright loveable could be worthy of an undertaking as prestigious and lauded as the mixing of a Balance compilation. Fittingly, this is Maas’ first official compilation for 9 years.

Timo Maas was drawn to the Balance format by the diversity that he was able to include into the mix over the more formatic creation of a live club set, along with his production partner Santos the compilation process stretched over four months.

He says;

“The format of the Balance mix series was always quite appealing to me; to spread myself out over 2 CDs without essentially having to “rock” a crowd from the beginning is a very good thing. I was able to also include deeper, downbeat, “earlier set” material, that I personally like to listen to, but am not essentially playing out on a normal club night. For me “the trip” is quite important to create, with a mix of brand new, even exclusive material, but also tracks that rock my world at the moment and most essentially have rocked my world for many years (the so called “classics”).”

Secretsundaze have announced details of their third annual party at La Terrazzza, the amazing open air club in Barcelona, along with news of their new booking agency The Secret Agency.

2010’s party looks set to be the best yet with it being the first time secretsundaze have utilised the picnic area just a few minutes walk from La Terrazzza. This is beautiful grassy area with trees overhanging the dance area with picnic benches and seating making it the perfect way to ease into the evening as a pre cursor to moving into La Terrazzza at midnight.

Along with La Terrazzza it provides one of the only true open air parties one can experience during the Sonar festivities. La Terrazzza itself is without doubt one of the most stunning locations for a party at Sonar. The party will go on for a marathon 12 hours!

Headlining this year is Patrice Scott from Detroit. Patrice’s productions on his Sistrum imprint have garnered him fans the world over and his DJ sets at the likes of Panorama bar, Fabric and indeed secretsundaze In London have furthered his appeal. Joining Patrice are two of secretsundaze favourite artists of the moment with The Mole and Trus’me.

The Mole has been a favourite appearing at secretsundaze a number of times now but usually performing live. This will be in fact his first time djing. Manchester’s Trus’me has shot to popularity over the last few years and his albums “Working Night’s” and “In The Red” have received huge acclaim. He has an extremely busy DJ schedule and this will be his debut set for secretsundaze.

Also representing The Secret Agency are young guns Ethyl and Flori who at the tender age 23 have already released on Quintessentials, Freerange, Cecile and forthcoming on secretsundaze. They are no slouches in the djing department either! Last up ever reliable residents Giles Smith and James Priestley will be on hand to keep the party burning long into the late hours.

secretsundaze at Sonar has become an institution attracting a great crowd of European party people and industry heads alike. This promises to be another unmissable party with it being the longest ever Sonar party (12 hours) and a double header with the party taking place across 2 sites. Baton down the hatches!

Date:
Sunday 20th June

Times:
5pm to Midnight in the picnic area, Midnight to 5am at La Terrazzza

For those already thinking of their summer plans, one destination and event is particular is right up there - The Garden Festival in Croatia. Set in a stunning 900-year old fishing village on the Dalmatian Coast, The Garden Festival is in an area of truly natural beauty.

Garden festival goers indulge in fine food and drink, travelling around the region and lazy sun-kissed days and hedonistic nights, all framed by the festival itself, which again takes place across the first and second weekends of July from 2nd-11th.

Nestled on a narrow peninsular jutting into the seductive Adriatic waters, the festival features a fully live outdoor stage and beach bar where waters lap around revellers’ feet, twice daily Argonaughty Boat Parties, club sessions in the retro-tastic Barbarellas Discotheque and attracts sun and fun seekers from all over Europe.

Nick Colgan, one of the Garden Festival’s founders, explains that, “We’ve already got some cracking names down for the summer and we’re all really pleased the way it’s taking shape so far. There are some really exciting developments with the Argonaughty Boat parties and also Barbarellas Discotheque too. I am personally really excited by Killer Whale (The Arthur Russell Project) and also Tensnake, both making debuts, along with some cracking DJs making their first trips to our little spot of paradise.”

The lineup is indeed taking shape to be the most inspiring yet in the Garden’s esteemed 5-year history, with everything from NYC deep disco from Metro Area jousting with the sublime sounds of Floating Points, one of the most talked about acts of 2009 for a string of revered releases and remixes, through to Leeds’ finest deck devil, Dave Beer.

One of Scotland’s finest, The Revenge, is set to unleash his fine disco cuts, and since his Resident Advisor podcast his stock has risen even further. London’s Horse Meat Disco also star, themselves enjoying their most fruitful year yet, and three late night specialists, Moodymann, Sebo K and Seth Troxler, bring a tech-noir edge to nocturnal proceedings. Of course it’s not just all about the new boys – some already legendary Garden guests also return, including Greg Wilson, Henrik Schwarz, Kelvin Brown, Terry Farley, No’ Fakin and a great deal more also star.

Croatia itself has enjoyed a bumper year as a travel destination, offering everything from secluded coves and deserted stretches of pristine beach to historic and vibrant cities, succulent sea-food and an enriching culture of old and new. Many of those who attended one or more of the weekends last year also took time out to explore some of this inspiring and seductive country too.

Croatia Garden Festival confirmed so far:

LIVE ACTS: 2020 Soundsystem • Bonobo • Crazy P • Henrik Schwarz • Killer Whale (The Arthur RussellProject) • Tensnake • Trojan Sound System DJ SETS: Adam Regan • Adam Shelton • Ame • Andy Blake • Basement Boogaloo • Bobby Beige • Christophe (Redux) • Daddy G • Dave Beer • Dave Jarvis • Deano Ferrino • Discomendments • Dixon • Dolan Bergin • Dom Chung • Ed Cotton • El Diablos • El Harvo • Electric Minds • Emma Chibuku • Faith • Felix Dickinson • Floating Points • Florian Keller • Futureboogie DJ’s • Geddes • Greg Wilson • Hang The Dj • Harri and Domenic • Horse Meat Disco • James Holroyd • Jimpster • Joe 90 • Karen P • Kelvin Brown • Kid Bongo • Metro Area (Darshan Jesrani) • Moodymann • Nick Shaw • No Fakin DJ’s • Ole Smokey • PBR Streetgang • Pete Herbert • Phat Phil Cooper • Red Rackem • Sam Redmore • Sebo K • Seth Troxler • Shur-i-kan • Smith and Mudd • Soul Jazz Sound System • Ste Hodge • Stu Patterson • Subb-An • Terry Farley • The Revenge • Tirk • Yam Who?

Ministry of Sound has become the first label to trial the solution, using an MXP4 MIXTAPE to generate excitement around the launch of Addicted to Bass, Winter 2009, a compilation album due for release today.

The MXP4 MIXTAPE previews a selection of album tracks and enables fans to play with the music, taking control of song transitions to create their own versions of professional mixtapes. Fans use a simple interface to control which tracks mix together and when, with MXP4 technology working in the background to cue up and generate seamless transitions. The MIXTAPE module also includes links to ‘Share’ it virally and ‘Buy’ the album from iTunes and others.

You can try out the MXP4 Mixtape here, have a play with the Ministry of Sound tracks and see hear the results immedately.

Albin Serviant, CEO of MXP4, said: “Along with the adoption of MXP4’s solution by an array of leading artists and labels, this is an exciting development for interactive music, and one which helps to address a key challenge for the music industry in the digital era. By giving fans access to more preview tracks and allowing them to play with the music, we are providing artists and labels with a new way to engage fans in the album experience and power whole album sales, be that on CD or in iTunes Album format.

Jason Reed, Digital Marketing Manager, Recordings, Ministry of Sound, said: “This is a cool interactive module that gives us a new and different way to create excitement and buzz around new album releases. It allows us to securely preview more of the album, whilst providing the chance to play around with the tracks, mixing them together to create personalised versions.”

On 8th September, UNKLE will release ‘Remix Stories (Volume One)’ – released as a 12″ and digitally, exclusively via Beatport for the first four weeks after the release.

The deliberate decision to make this release available on 12″ was made in a bid to go back to UNKLE’s roots (of dance music, pre-digital age) and to make ‘Remix Stories’ a collectible item for long standing fans.

Remixes come courtesy of legendary dance duo Layo and Bushwacka!, renowned house DJs and remixers Innervisions, and one of today’s most prolific producers Radio Slave.

The track listing is as follows:

Trouble in Paradise – Variation on a Theme (UNKLE Remix)
Hold My Hand (Innervisions Orchestra Remix)
Twilight (Layo and Bushwacka! Remix)
