John Digweed’s album Structures has an excellent selection of 33 tracks, some of which are the latest of Bedrock releases along with an exciting collection of unreleased and exclusive tracks from ‘Bedrock Eleven‘, providing the listener with an exceptional cocktail of electronic dance music to hit the clubs in 2010.

You can be rest assured that the electronic dance party is as astounding as ever and the album will have you on your feet in no time and keep you there. The album is a definite must have for Digweed fans and fans of electronic dance music and all I can say is this…be prepared for more of the legendary John Digweed bass. Structures definitely has its own signature BOOM bass that will definitely require cranking up for the not so faint hearted.

This amazing album allows us a glance into the future of electronic dance music in the form of 2xCDs, which not only features the incredible music of top cats like Cristian Varela, Guy J, Christian Smith, Quivver, King Unique, Nick Warren, Mutant Clan, John Digweed & Nick Muir, but presents Bedrocks’ genius and desire to push forward the rising stars of the future.

On checking out the tracklist you will become familiar with the impressive talents of Rowdent, Dimitri Nakov, Marc Marzenit, Ian O`Donovan, Sian, Luis Junior and many more. There is an additional bonus of some of the best remix work from Nic Fanciulli, Pete Heller, Psycatron and more.

John Digweed has definitely got his finger firmly on the pulse of the electronic dance scene in 2010.

Structures is really showing off by the inclusion of a bonus DVD featuring ‘Eye Of The Storm‘, a documentary, filmed on Digweed’s last tour of South America by Pablo Casacuberta. I found the documentary fascinating as Pablo used visual metaphor throughout to allow the audience to gain more insight into the personal life of Digweed. Having a background as a therapist, this form of artistic expression fascinates me and also speaks to me loud and clear, but it also enables the viewer to both see and hear the messages John Digweed has to offer.

John Digweed gave a very powerful message in his documentary to the next generation of electronic dance music producers and DJ’s alike. When he was 15 years of age he played in hotels and at birthday parties to gain more experience of turning on the crowd and getting them on the dance floor. He received some excellent advice from experienced Jocks with many years experience. Digweed’s clear message to anyone considering entering the music industry was to listen intently to the advice of the experienced and to have patience – I adored the visual metaphor of a snail Pablo used to emphasise this message to the audience.

The Eye Of The Storm documentary is excellent in detailing the life of a DJ, producer, promoter and owner of a record label and provides the audience with an incredibly detailed account of how being a success can have an impact on the once ordinary life of an unknown DJ.

Born in 1967 and therefore being of a similar age to myself, I was delighted to hear John inform the audience he is still unsure when he will hang up his headphones and is indeed in no hurry to do so. This was music to my ears, excuse the pun!

Music is ageless and is not ageist and Digweed is still excited today about the change in electronic dance music as he ever was when he first heard Donna Summer in 1977 sing I Feel Love and again in the 1980’s with Kraftwerk.

John Digweed presents himself as a very genuine, sincere and modest man, who acknowledges that his success is down to the music and also recognises that the key to a good track is that it is made from the heart and that it has soul. I have to say I thoroughly enjoyed both the energy of the dance album, but having watched the ‘Eye of the Storm’, I feel more compelled to listen to the album more intently. You will have to watch the documentary for John’s explanation for the title of the DVD.

I read an HMV review which wrote ‘It seems amazing that through such an illustrious career so far, John Digweed has never had a live DJ mix made commercially available! But, ‘John Digweed Live at the Vagabond’, recorded live at the 9th Annual Bedrock/Creations Party at Vagabond Miami 27th March 2010, is included on the ‘Structures’ bonus DVD , is yet another musical milestone. It’s a 10 track live mix complete with slideshow that captures the essence of this amazing Bedrock party for posterity’

I strongly recommend the purchase of ‘Structures’ and a night in with some popcorn and a glass or two of whatever takes your fancy, to watch the ‘Eye of the Storm’ DVD. Its all good!!

Error Response is British producer Stephen Arnold (aka Espion) and Zen is the debut album released on the Berlin based Elektrotribe label.

Zen is a very interesting album that blends Arnold’s love of film scores with interesting ideas and eery moments. Playing like a pseudo-fsoundtrack, the album has mood swings incaptulating drum n bass and downtempo beats, trip hop grooves and atmospheric samples of electronica.

Error Response is a move away from the industrial and agressive electro output of Espion and allows Stephen Arnold to explore much softer tones. The music on Zen steer their own path, evoking thoughts of a dark, melancholic, moody and claustrophobic Bladerunner-esque, urban environment.

The album is the first of three parts entitled Zen, Tao and Chi, which have been in production since 2005. The music fuses sampled loops and phrases with complex interweaving programmed rhythms and synthesized melodies, with an organic flow, dropping into ambient sections, or into more fast drum ‘n’ bass sections, while always sticking to the theme of a mysterious, urban samurai, film noir soundtrack, filled with curiosity, intrigue, thrills, car chases, plot twists, gangsters, cops and femmes fatales.

The album takes the listener on a journey of both hectic rushes and moments of contemplation. The album is apparently inspired by the Ninja Tune sample master, Amon Tobin, the ambient soundscapes of game composer Jesper Kyd, many film composers such as John Barry, John Powell, Phillip Glass, Bernard Herrmann and classical composer, Igor Stravinsky.

A unique audio visual experience is promised to fans of film and electronic music at London’s BFI Southbank venue on Friday July 17 2009, starting at 11pm.

Film director Jake Martin of Zik Zak Filmworks/Blacksheep Films, will present a very special UK premiere of his stunning new high definition experimental film work ‘Music For Astronauts and Cosmonauts’, that acts as a kind of visual poem for the album of the same name created by producer and artist Howie B and Icelandic artist Húbert Nói.

Music for Astronauts and Cosmonauts is a real time soundtrack, organised into 4 tracks, Morning, Day, Evening, Night, and running for 90 minutes. This is the time it takes to experience a full Earth orbit. Filmmaker Jake Martin has carefully created an ambient collage of some of the most amazing films from NASA’s collection to mirror Howie and Hubert’s pulsing, mesmerising electronica.

This late night screening will follow a presentation of Stanley Kubrick’s classic sci-fi voyage, 2001: A Space Oddesey, making for a truly cosmic experience.

BFI’s brand new audiovisual club event, Dark Fibre will continue the lunar theme with live AV performances late into the night.
