But that is only a small part of the story, the explosion of his Gobsmacked label which is gearing up for its 70th release, the kick off and wide broadcasting of Gobsmacked’s new Podcast Series, guestings on some of the worlds top Techno shows, the dropping of his critically acclaimed Structured Noise album and more gigs than you can shake a stick at, has kept the the young man more than occupied during the past year.

But he has no plans to ease the load as we get closer t0 2011 as he already has around a dozen releases planned for the early part of the year, including a remix of one of the biggest Techno tracks of all time ‘Space DJz Ak47’.

You should also look out for his own remix release which will include almost two dozen global producers and hero’s, as well as his label Gobsmacked looking to celebrate its 100th release by the end of 2011.

Gobsmacked Sessions, the podcast series/radio broadcast show started alongside other Gobsmacked member Luke Creed has been gaining momentum with growing re-broadcasts on FM and digi stations worldwide. Not to mention, the kicking off of the new Gobsmacked Mastering service in conjunction with Neptune Studio’s Berlin and the legendary Patrick DSP.

It has been a steady journey for the Irish Techno peddler since the release of his first vinyl in 2006, and ever since his style has grabbed the attention of those that matter, his peers in the dance music industry and the club goers who make the whole thing worthwhile.

The legend has grown in those few years thanks to regular track support from Dave Clarke, Dj Rush, Cj Bolland and countless giants of electronic music, almost constant airplay across UK and European radio stations, including BBC Radio 1, White Noise, ATL Dance Show, Absolute Technoise, RTE Radio, KISS FM, NRJ Radio, DI – FM, XFM while also guest mixing and broadcasting exclusive sessions for most of these stations and many more including White Noise, Clash Music Magazine’s Series, Dr Hoffmanns Blindspot, Mastertraxx etc and bringing his intense mixing style to clubs and radios across Europe.

Live European dates have seen Diarmaid performing in all the major cities, with regular appearances in Berlin which is his current stomping ground.

2009 has been a fantastic year for music and a great year for Bedrock Records, and now John Digweed has selected future highlights, unreleased exclusives, current favourites and remixed classics, from his influential label’s catalogue for this next annual instalment of the Bedrock mix compilation series.

With outstanding singles from Guy Gerber, Christian Smith & John Selway, Pete Heller, Alan Fitzpatrick and Guy J to name just a few, 2009 has seen the Bedrock label go from strength  to strength with each release. Now, as this mix follows on from last year’s 10 year celebration album Past Present Future the main focus for Bedrock Eleven is the future.

Featuring a wealth of unreleased tracks that have been severely road-tested by the man himself over the last few months, this is a showcase of exclusives from artists such as Mutant Clan, Marco Bailey, Alex Dolby + Santos, Giorgos Gatzigristos, Marc Marzenit, Rowdent, Erphun and James Zabiela.

UNKLE to release Remix Stories (Volume One)

On 8th September, UNKLE will release ‘Remix Stories (Volume One)’ – released as a 12″ and digitally, exclusively via Beatport for the first four weeks after the release.

The 12″ features four previously unreleased remixes of tracks taken from the last two albums (‘War Stories’ and the recently released ‘End Titles… Stories for Film’).

The deliberate decision to make this release available on 12″ was made in a bid to go back to UNKLE’s roots (of dance music, pre-digital age) and to make ‘Remix Stories’ a collectible item for long standing fans.

Remixes come courtesy of legendary dance duo Layo and Bushwacka!, renowned house DJs and remixers Innervisions, and one of today’s most prolific producers Radio Slave.

As well as more popular, commercial artists such as Radiohead, Coldplay and U2 there is a wide range of genres and lists of lesser known artists. MusicMP3.ru has six main genres, all broken into sub-categories. Electronic music is well catered for with 37 sub-categories, including: techno, drum & bass, jungle, synth pop, trip hop, and ambient; as well as goa, lo-fi, noise and space! To be honest, I’m not sure it is that helpful to have so many.

I personally found it difficult to know which genre some artists were placed in. Bjork, for instance, was difficult to find under ‘Trip hop’, while I was surprised to find The Kills under ‘Lo-fi’. But I think this is a generic problem with trying to categorise an artist style, not a problem with the website, itself. My suggestion is to search for a specific artist by letter, not genre.

All mp3 download sites cater for popular artists, so to test how good the MusicMP3 catalogue was I selected a few lesser known electronic artists at random. Susumu Yokota, Burnt Friedman, Sven Vath, Hallucinogen and Blue States were all included alongside the more popular Portishead, Prodigy, Roni Size and Aphex Twin.

MusicMP3 offers top 10 download charts for each section as well as music news though this is not really a main part of the site.

The website itself is easy to use. Once I had found an album I wanted to buy, it was a simple process to follow; though I would have preferred to be able to download a zip file of a complete album instead of having to download each track individually. This addition would make the download experience more user-friendly.

Before buying a track you can preview the beginning, middle and end of the song which allows you to explore unknown artists or listen to album tracks before purchasing. I wish I had taken the opportunity to preview the Portishead album before I bothered to download it!

It also offers album reviews but like the news section, this is not the best place to find reviews, especially if you are looking for less commercial artists. First and foremost this is a great source for a wide range of very cheap but legal to download, mp3’s.

As a primary source of legally downloading cheap mp3’s, MusicMP3 is a great website. MusicMP3 is able to sell mp3’s for such a cheap price, compared with websites based in the rest of Europe and America, through a Russian organisation called ROMS. It is totally legal and well worth a visit.
