MOBSCENE

On December 10th, two leading forces from the dubstep scene unite, for TRIBE presents Never Say Die & Circus – a night of big bass, deep dub and forward-thinking underground music. And with a huge lineup, this is one night you can’t afford to miss…

Coming to The Electric, Brixton, dubstep powerhouses Circus Records and Never Say Die Records bring together two of the freshest and most exciting rosters in dubstep. Innovators in the scene, and home to inspirational, forward-thinking and LOUD bass music, Circus Records and Never Say Die Records have released some of the biggest underground anthems of the past couple of years. And together they present a lineup that’s going to smash it up!

From the Never Say Die camp come critically acclaimed rap, grime and dubstep act Foreign Beggars, who bring their frenetic live show to the night. Fresh from collaborations with the likes of Mensah and Skrillex, as well as Noisia, and more, Foreign Beggars (Metropolis, Orifice Vulgatron, DJ Nonames) are as unpredictable as they are prolific. They’re known for producing energetic live shows, and rumbling beats that drive dancefloors into a frenzy, so this time Foreign Beggars are pulling out all the stops.

And it’s a ‘battle of the bosses’, as, Circus Records’ Flux Pavillion and Never Say Die’s SKisM play an exclusive back2back set. Following the release of their collaborative single with Foreign Beggars ‘Jump Back’, (released on November 28th) the two label bosses are lining up something very special.

The two camps are bringing in the reinforcements, with plenty of huge support coming from both rosters. We have Circus Records dons Slum Dogz (Swan-E, Doctor P and Krafty MC) and Funtcase, playing back2back. And from Never Say Die we have troopers Dodge & Fuski, who are releasing ‘Python/What Do You Know’ on December 12th, and Zomboy whose remix of Nadia Ali, Starkillers & Alex Kenji – ‘Pressure’ is coming on November 21st. Between them these two have put out some of the biggest jump up records of this year!

Plus Urban Nerds boys Rattus Rattus and Klose One and electro heads Mobscene (‘High/Graceful Destruction’ released November 28th) are coming along for the ride.

Visuals come from Fade In Fade Out, an Audio Visual collective from London. Their approach is an intensive mash-up of stark graphic icons, shapes and deconstructed imagery, and it’s seen them work on shows with Skream, Benga, Rusko, Basment Jaxx, Funkagenda, Annie Mac, Jack Beats, and Stanton Warriors.

With Tribe presents Never Say Die & Circus, Circus and Never Say Die are taking bass next level. Bringing together a massive lineup and sleek production – this event will blow your mind.

Nic Fanciulli had yet another SAVED WEEKENDER success at The Source Bar in Maidstone, this Bank Holiday weekend, in celebration of his Saved Records 6th birthday. I could see Nic Fanciulli’s face at the back of the stage looking absolutely delighted with the turn out. The guest DJ line up was impressive including, John Digweed, Adam Beyer, Guy J, Paul Ritch, Ida Enberg, Mark Fanciulli, Tim Green, Alex Tepper, Rob Cockerton and many more.

I had no doubt that the music would keep the masses on their feet and true to form, the crowds were non stop dancing to some of the worlds legendary DJ sets. I knew it was going to be a hot experience, where everybody would maybe love some ice cream with vodka jelly!

Wiretappeur - Everybody Loves ice cream by Bedrock Records

I arrived when John Digweed was playing and unlike last year, Saved had pitched a stage outside in ‘Rose Yard’ to accommodate more room for the ravers. Last year the main room of The Source Bar was packed solid and condensation was dripping from the ceiling as the music and revellers created a very hot atmosphere! No need for Saved fans to worry about the heat this year though, as an open air gig helped to keep them cool and keep them dancing.

The vibe was amazing and the excitement of the crowd was clear enough to see and feel. I worked my way to the front of the crowd, just so I could get a closer look at the magicians at work and true to form, John Digweed’s excellent set, insisted you felt the bass penetrate your soul, move to the beats and sway to the rhythm of the crowd.

Paul Ritch another Bedrock star followed John Digweed, who are both incredibly gifted DJ/Producers. Both of their set bass lines could of started a tsunami on the River Medway close by. John Digweed played a track close to the end of his set, which was an amazing Bongo beat delight – I LOVE dem bongo beats! It got the crowds whistling and wooo-ing with excitement and I could not help but look around at the happy faces of many keeping up with the rhythm of the beat. It definitely created an incredible atmosphere.

I had a ‘billy no mates’ night out, as my usual club buddy went to visit relatives up north, whilst another, who is always asking to come to a gig with me unfortunately fell ill.

Others had other engagements including having to get up for work early the next morning! Bank Holiday’s used to be when most supermarkets closed, so families could enjoy time together and relax, but unfortunately times have changed. So I put my on glad rags, including new boots that were definitely not made for dancing and set off, as I wasn’t going to miss this Saved Records party for the world, because their sounds lead the way.

ROSS EVANA - THESE SOUNDS by savedrecords

I didn’t need to worry about being alone, because as soon as I arrived, I went to the bar where almost immediately a man introduced me to another younger woman (who informed me she was trying to get a free drink from him) as his wife! You’ve gotta laugh at some of the tactics of men, who know how to avoid buying a lady a drink! The people there were all very friendly and were definitely having an amazing time.

I got chatting to a few people on the dance floor, including a woman who asked my age and after telling her the truth, said I looked incredible bless her, she’s definitely on my ‘friend for life’ list. Following that revelation, we got chatting about hair styles, as hers was an amazing post punk bleached blond spikey classic cut. Then a sweet young man kept on insisting he give me a hug, whilst saying Awwww! Perhaps the sweety felt that I needed a hug, either that or I reminded him of his mum! I would like to think that he was impressed that someone of my age had the balls to go to a gig of this magnitude alone and get with the groove! There’s no stopping me!

ROSS EVANA - GROOVE IT by savedrecords

I was pleased to see some of the VIP guests at the back of the stage, getting down and dancing amongst the crowd, as although they continually took photographs and were dancing at the back, the vibe was truly happening on the floor, front stage. I was very grateful for having a VIP guest list entrance and asked if I could go back stage, as I wanted to thank John Digweed for placing me on the guest list. Sadly, I was informed by security, that I needed a stamp on the back of my hand as well as a green VIP wristband. A lady then informed me I looked like I should of been that side of the stage, so I thanked her kindly, as I always try to look my best! It definitely wasn’t a night to wear my daytime linen casuals with comfy sandals! However, I believe I showed my appreciation more, simply by turning up, enjoying the experience and dancing to John Digweed doing what he was definitely put on this earth to do.

I glanced up at a window at one stage, whilst moving to the beats and noticed Nic Fanciulli looking absolutely delighted looking down at the crowd, also noticing he was holding a much deserved glass of champagne in his hand. Seeing the delight on his face, kept the smile on mine, as I am always delighted to observe peoples moments of happiness. All I can say to Nic Fanciulli is, the ‘SAVED WEEKENDER‘ was another incredible experience and we at Buzzin Media wish Saved Records a very happy 6th year, and many more years of success to follow, which we have no doubt they will.

Among the electronic music artists confirmed to play at this year’s Rock En Seine music festival are Death In Vegas, Trentemoller and top French DJ & producer Etienne De Crecy.

Fans of all three will appreciate that Death In Vegas & Trentemoller are headlining the Scene Pression Live Stage on Friday and Sunday, repsectively. While Etienne De Crecy will headline the Scene De La Cascade Stage on Saturday night.

Death in Vegas were formed in 1994 by Richard Maguire aka Richard Fearless & Steve Hellier and were originally called Dead Elvis. Objections had them change the name of the group and instead Dead Elvis became the title of their debut album. Over the years their music has blended influences of psychedelic electronic rock, krautrock, dub, electronica & minimal techno as the band constantly change without concerns of fads and trends.

Death In Vegas now consists of original member Richard Fearless & Tim Holmes.

Rock en Seine is situated in a northern suburb of Paris and as such almost guarantees good camping weather, unlike the UK festivals which can be marred by rain, rain and more rain. The festival is in the centre of town just 10km outside Paris and is on from Friday 26th August to Sunday 28th August; and the High Speed Train and Metro can get you there in a matter of a few hours.

Academy 1, Manchester
Friday 1st April
Gary Numan live / Recoil live / Motor live / Mark Jones DJ set

The Troxy, London
Saturday 2nd April
Gary Numan live / John Foxx live / Mirrors live / Motor live / Daniel Miller DJ set / Mark Jones DJ set

The original purveyors of electronica music Gary Numan and John Foxx (formerly of Ultravox and presently in his acclaimed guise as John Foxx And The Maths), made music that on release sounded entirely alien and futuristic yet soon became the sound of the decade.

Still sounding fresh today, their influence is ubiquitous. Modern R&B, pop, house, techno, indie, dubstep and more besides, owe a massive debt to the experimental electronics with a pop sensibility laid down by these musicians and their peers. Numan and Foxx are still making exciting music.

Dennis Music and Back To The Phuture live are hugely excited to announce a rare (London only) DJ set from Daniel Miller, founder of the iconic record label Mute. If that wasn’t enough of a massive cherry on the tasty cake that consists of Gary Numan, John Foxx, Motor, Recoil and Mark Jones, the hugely-tipped band Mirrors will add even more flavour to the London date with their stylish and cinematic synth pop.

“I’m so happy to be welcoming Daniel Miller and Mirrors to the line up for the Troxy”, says Back To The Phuture creator and Wall of Sound record label founder Mark Jones. “Their synthfluential sonics will open up the experience even more. Oh, and I called Daniel at the Mute offices asking for guest list to Depeche Mode’s European tour in 1983 and he sorted me right out. So if you need any names added Daniel, just shout!”

They will take place in Manchester and London with live performances by electro originators Gary Numan and John Foxx (London only), alongside rising starts Motor on both dates, Recoil in Manchester, Mirrors in London plus a DJ set from Daniel Miller (London).

As well as recording as the seminal act The Normal, Daniel Miller has been at the helm of the utterly peerless record label Mute since 1978. A biog isn’t necessary when the roster speaks for itself like this: Depeche Mode, Yazoo, Throbbing Gristle, Nick Cave, Fad Gadget, Kraftwerk, Goldfrapp, Liars, Buzzcocks, Art Brut and Add N To (X) are but a few Mute bands.

An obsessive fan of electronic music, Mark Jones’ concept with Back To The Phuture was to join-the-dots between the pioneers of electro pop, club music and experimental sounds with new blood who’ve taken the blueprint and pushed the envelope in their own original direction.

On both nights Mark Jones will be spinning seminal machine music from the past, present and future with Mark’s sets paying special attention to new talent like Hurts, Villa Nah, La Roux, Little Boots, Penguin Prison and Ellie Goulding.

“Its amazing to see Back To The Phuture evolve into a live ‘happening’ and to be able to present inspiring artists that’ve paved the way for all of us alongside ace current talent”, says Jones.“Their music has never been more relevant to what’s happening – tomorrow is today.”

No DJ better encapsulates the vibrancy of electronic music, goosebump-prickling experiences and epic, long sets lasting for hours at a time. That DJ is Laurent Garnier, who headlines and debuts with his new live LBS show performing with Benjamin Rippert and Scan X for six hours this month at Circus in Liverpool on Saturday 29th January.

Laurent Garnier’s passion for new sounds and his relationship with a loving Liverpool keeps him coming back for more. With many legendary sets already behind him in The Theatre and at Nation, Garnier still makes the hairs on the back of everyone’s neck ripple with anticipation.

Garnier says of his new live show, “During the live sections of LBS I will be developing and fine-tuning new tracks in front of (and with) the crowd to create the live of the future, but also to test out new tracks. We’ll be taking our time, something that isn’t really the done thing nowadays! Alongside Benjamin and Scan X I’ll be creating tracks live for my next tour and for my future releases.”

LBS offers the best of both worlds by combining the versatility and flexibility of the DJ set with the ability to experiment with tracks live in a club environment. Two decks, a Rhodes, several keyboards and machines will be used to create an organic, improvised full six-hour set for the Circus masses. For any Circus fan, this show simply cannot be missed in The Theatre.

Support comes from Yousef. His work ethic remains relentless, though his Circus gig is one of only two in January as he contniues to focus second studio album, encompassing a wide spectrum of at-the-fore electronic music with some surprises in store too.

Swedish techno titan Adam Beyer also returns to Liverpool after a long absence since his scintillating set at Nation 3 years ago. His sound is a mixture of bone-shaking grooves and gilt edged pounding rhythms, his intense interpretation of techno music making his a standout artist and DJ.

His genre-defining record label, Drumcode is the home to pioneering producers including Cari Lekebusch, Joey Beltram and Marco Bailey, along with his own peerless remixes and productions. There’s only one man left in Aeroplane – who had the huge honour of being the 500th Essential Mix DJ last April at Circus – and now Vito De Luca continues to ply his DJ and remixing trade at the head of deep disco and synth-pop excursions; as Aeroplane, he remains one of the leading lights in fusing everything from French house to Italo in seamless sets.

There is also a special debut for Belfast’s Space Dimension Controller, a hotly-tipped 20-year old producer whose Temporary Thrillz EP has made waves in the house music community.

Circus’ two key residents Lewis Boardman and Scott Lewis are on hand to support this stupendous Circus session, offering house and techno templates to warm up The Masque. There’s one final debut too – Sean Stephenson, one of the team behind Circus and Chibuku, makes his first appearance behind the decks.

Following two sold out and rather raucous affairs at The Silver Bullet in North London with Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs and Drums Of Death, Data Transmission, the leading dance music website, return with round three, featuring two truly awesome guests.

Headlining the Xmas Special tonight is a purveyor of big, euphoric ’80s-pop-meets-electro-grooves’, the awesome Grum.

Grum counts the likes of Annie Mac, Zane Lowe, Andy George & Jaymo, Aeroplane, DJMag, Mixmag, Clash Magazine, NME, iDJ amongst his numerous fans, so for us mere mortals we know we will be witnessing something rather special.

His debut LP Heartbeats is one of the year’s hottest albums, coming across like Mylo jamming with Daft Punk and Phil Collins, and his stunning remixes for the likes of Lady Gaga, Groove Armada and Everything, Everything have blown up clubs, blogs, charts and festivals across the world. Our man will be DJing on the night, showcasing
his ridiculously uplifting sounds and knack for a damn good riff.

There will also be a very special live set from Beardyman, the worlds greatest beatbox and vocal acrobat, who will be performing unaided by gadgetry, just him and his mic. This is a very rare experience and one that really should not be missed as Beardyman rarely does shows this stripped back anymore, instead choosing to use lots of gadgets and technology to do even more weird and wonderful things!

Festive Xmas dress is positively encouraged, and the hosts will be dishing out the themed freebies as always.

After three months of scouring the globe for the world’s greatest nightlife, the Smirnoff Co.® reveals today that it is the best of Miami’s nightlife culture will be arriving in London on 27th November for the epic finale of the Smirnoff Nightlife Exchange Project. The event at the Troxy is part of the groundbreaking one-of-a-kind project in which 14 countries have paired up to swap nightlife.

Ensuring it is an unforgettable night, fans can expect a live performance from the infamous all American hip-hop band featuring Pharrell Williams, N*E*R*D. Joining them will be BBC Radio 1 DJ Zane Lowe, having presided over the best of British nightlife and been the driving force behind the project in Great Britain, Zane will be taking to the decks for an exclusive Miami inspired DJ set alongside cut and paste supremo Jaguar Skills.

Fans will also be able to sample an authentic taste of Miami as they enjoy delicious Smirnoff Miami Mule cocktails by the virtual interactive pool and kick back and relax at the luxury lounge bar. If Nikki beach is more your style, head to the main room to experience the sand between your toes complete with palm trees overhead before embracing Little Havana notorious for Latino dancers and carnival entertainment.

To be there and celebrate the outcome of the Smirnoff Nightlife Exchange Project as two very different cultures collide to create something extraordinary, partygoers should visit Facebook.com/SmirnoffGB to win tickets.

In turn, Miami will receive the best of Britain’s homegrown nightlife, as voted for by the public and curator Zane Lowe. A community of more than 279,000 people across the country were involved and more than 6,520 people suggested what best characterises nightlife in Great Britain – from fashion trends and musical styles to locally inspired cocktails – via Facebook. Once all of the suggestions were in, Zane Lowe selected the ones that best represented the nation’s vibrant and varied nightlife. These ingredients will now be packed into a crate for Miami to experience when the world swaps nights in the epic finale on 27th November.

It can now be revealed that Miami can look forward to experiencing a myraid of quintessentially British nightlife experiences, with an unexpected twist. Incorporating the nation’s unique festival vibe and a series of typical traditions including fish and chips, kebabs and black cabs the night will give partygoers a bona fide insight into British nightlife culture.

Zane Lowe comments:

“I’m incredibly excited to see the best of British nightlife come to life for the people of Miami to enjoy. After weeks of voting and some extraordinary suggestions on what makes our nightlife truly unique, the event on November 27th promises to be a one-of-a-kind experience. Miami, I hope you are ready!”

To further involve the global community around the Nightlife Exchange Project, the Smirnoff Co. has created a new collaborative music platform Beat of the World, launching soon – it will allow people from around the world to get involved and help create an exclusive track that will be played at the finale events.

The track will represent the diverse cultures of the 14 countries taking part in the Smirnoff Nightlife Exchange Project and exchanging the best of their nightlife on 27th November 2010. The pairings for the 12 other countries taking part have been revealed as follows:

Australia – SYDNEY & Brazil – SÃO PAULO
Argentina – BUENOS AIRES & Ireland – DUBLIN
Canada – TORONTO & India – BANGALORE
Germany – BERLIN & South Africa – CAPE TOWN
Lebanon – BEIRUT & Thailand – BANGKOK
Poland – WARSAW & Venezuela – CARACAS
