Smootrab (Jigs) Welcome To My Jungle

Smootrab, aka Bart Ooms, previously known as ‘Jigs’ has just announced his ‘Welcome To My Jungle‘ Remix Contest. Smootrab is a new upcoming Belgian Producer, who endeavours to make an impression in the music scene over the coming years and his enthusiasm and passion is without doubt contagious.

Since the age of 14, Smootrab avidly followed the electronic music & club scene, spinning the wheels of steel as a local DJ. As years went by, he never lost his love for music, but didn’t focus on becoming a known name in the club scene. He graduated in Clinical Chemistry and later started a family, however, his passion for producing remained firm whilst he spinned at online events and broadcasted some webradio shows.

Smootrab later found  ‘Open Music Synergy’, a Flemish DJ/Producer Group on the social network site “Facebook”, where he met with fresh and more advanced producers, so he simply couldn’t resist joining the group being very eager to learn more about music production.

Now he is preparing for the remix contest (closing date June 5th)  the winning remix of  his Tech House ‘Welcome To My Jungle’ will be released on his upcoming EP due for release by ‘Kornerhouse Records’

Dedicated to his vision that ‘everything is possible’ for those who believe in it, his determination to succeed and motto ‘live your dream’ has gained him respect and recognition as a new producer in town.  He gained his first Label signing in January 2011, as ‘Jigs’, with his first EP ‘Rise Up’ (Retorica Recordings) .

Soon followed by a track ‘Ambo’ on a WMC 2011 sampler album and by March 2011 he signed all his other tunes under his new name ‘Smootrab’. Together with ‘TWIST3D Producer’, they produce by the name of SMO3D, No Man’s Land (T&T Records) a fresh new project that will release tracks from Tech House to Minimal Techno.

He is certainly a very motivated producer trying to create his own sound without holding on to one specific style of music. It varies from Tech House to Club House, from Progressive to straight up Techno with no boundaries. He likes to use tribal percussion, loves deep basslines, funky or latin grooves and experiments with more progressive uplifting breaks, Fx & drops.

To celebrate the launch of the latest Ministry Of Sound compilation album The Annual 2010, MOS have set up two microsites featuring exclusive competitions,  one offering the chance to win a lifetime VIP Membership to Ministry Of Sound’s world famous club in London and the other offering the chance to enter a remix competition and win a one day Super Club DJ Academy spot.

Micro-site www.theannual2010.co.uk sees Ministry Of Sound giving away a free VIP membership to their internationally-renowned club in London. The prize entitles the lucky winner to no queuing and free admission to club nights at the capital venue for them and a friend – for life!

All contest entrants also receive a free Minimix download, featuring highlights from The Annual 2010 release.

Budding DJs meanwhile, are being offered the chance to remix one of Ministry of Sound’s tracks on the microsite www.ministryofsound.com/annual2010remix.

Visitors can access stems for the Tina More single Touch Me, create their very own version of the track and upload it to the website for judging. Fellow dance fans will cast their votes and one winner will be selected from the top five most popular remixes by the label to receive the DJ Academy prize.

The triumphant entrant will receive a one-day Super Club DJ experience at the special workshop at the world-famous Ministry Of Sound club. Irish electro-pop band Empire State Human

Do you fancy your chances as a top remixer?

In collaboration with Irish electro-pop band Empire State Human and their label Ninthwave Records, the Laptoprockers website has set up a competition to remix the track ‘Melancholic Afro’.

The track features vocals and beats supplied by original Kraftwerk member, Wolfgang Flür.

Lead singer of the band, Aidan Casserly, explains, “Wolfgang Flür created the backbeats and some catchy vocal lines for the track. Other than that it has a Prodigy as well as a T-Rex feel.”

Empire State Human are the first Irish group t work with a former Kraftwerk member. “We still can’t believe our luck, and are curious what remixers will come up with. We’re looking for exciting and unique entries which will expand the original track into another music direction and level,” said Casserly.

The prize pool for this contest is filled with some top notch plug-ins supplied by Izotope, makers of the highly acclaimed ‘Ozone’ mastering plug-in.

Laptoprockers is a webzine about music and related technology, featuring daily news and interviews – with a strong focus towards remixing. This is the second time Laptoprockers organizes a remix contest. “Go on with the right track, good luck with it,” comments Wolfgang Flür in a reaction on the website.
