Wordbomb

Crimson Death & Moonshot detonate this exceptionally powerful track ‘Wordbomb’ on Brighton based EML Recordings label out now on Juno. London based Moonshot (Daniel Kent and Richard Wolfe) combine dark, urban beats with pop melodies to create songs that are challenging yet accessible.

Crimson Death is a Toronto-based Jungle DJ, whose music is influenced by the sounds and imagery of Black Metal. Known for his extreme studio creations, unique covers and high energy remixes, he seamlessly blends elements of opposing genres into dynamic dance-floor anthems.

‘Wordbomb’ features the amazonian vocals of Thanet based Nikki Booth. Her powerful tribal vocals are a perfect match for the dominant beats of the track. Although released in April, I heard this track only days ago and felt the urgent need to write and spread the ‘Wordbomb’. The powerful images of the video are reminiscent of the current forest fires spreading across the country. I am sure the vocals of Nikki Booth could be deployed to extinguish the flames, as if blowing out a candle!

Moonshot’s influences include bands such as Pet Shop Boys, Massive Attack, Depeche Mode and Portishead as well as artists as diverse as Pink Floyd and Tori Amos.

Crimson Death can be categorized as technically complex drum and bass reinforced through “wall of sound” drum programming.  Dark, distorted bass lines and layers of cold ambience are accompanied by haunting, demonic vocals delivering otherworldly lyrics which, focus on all aspects of perceived reality and experienced emotion within the collective sub-conscious.

The live ten-piece band onlyjoe will be supported by the well-known Reggae Roast selecta Excel. Mr. Greggae will be taking time to Skank Out Of Babylon and Louis.Lou.I will be selecting conscious roots and mash-up jungle bass.

Last but not least is Hylu & Jago, spanning across genres influenced by ska, roots, reggae and dub, with support from D-Tek and Dr. Cool bringing you a selection from ‘dutty’ jungle rinse-out, to roots, reggae and dancehall.

Commix Album Launch Party

The launch of the Commix Re:call To Mind album takes place at the Corsica Studios in South East London on Friday October 8th, located in two railway arches behind the shopping centre at the Elephant & Castle, the venue boasts one of the best sound systems in the capital, with a specially installed Funktion One rig in both rooms.

To celebrate the launch Commix have pulled off a UK exclusive with Berghain / Panorama Bar resident Marcel Dettmann making his final appearance in London until 2011.

The Commix ‘Re:call To Mind’ album features remixes from amongst others Burial.  Thom Yorke is one of only a handful of musicians to have received the remix treatment from Burial but Metalhead’s owner, Goldie managed to entice him into remixing Commix’s “True”.

Further contributions come from fabric resident’s Instra:mental as well as Berghain / Panorama Bar resident, Marcel Dettmann and techno pioneers Underground Resistance.

This is the first time Metalheadz or any other drum & bass label has attempted to diversify its sound with what will be a landmark album for the record company.

Tijs Michiel Verwest has used many pseudonyms over a music career spanning over 15 years but he is best known for his work as DJ Tiesto.  On his latest productions he has dropped the “DJ” and is now simply known as “Tiesto”.

In 1997 he formed the Black Hole recordings record label with Arny Blink where he released the Magik and In Search Of Sunrise CD series.  In 2001 he released his first solo album, In My Memory.  This launched his artist career to new heights, and he was named “World’s No.1 DJ” 3 consecutive times by DJ Magazine in 2002, 2003 and 2004.

Tiesto appears to be one of the busiest men in dance music. In 2004 he played at the Summer Olympics when he performed live at the opening ceremony in Athens, Greece; and in doing so became the first DJ to play live at an Olympic ceremony.  In 2007 he launched his own radio show in the Netherlands; and in 2008 he received a Grammy Award for his third album, Elements Of Life.  His latest album, Kaleidoscope, was released in October 2009.

Pendulum are about to embark on their first American tour, including dates in the United States, Canada, Brazil and Mexico.  The aptly named ‘Tour of the Americas’ will kick off in Brazil on September 27 and finish with a CMJ Music Marathon showcase at New York City’s Bowery Ballroom on October 26th.

Pendulum have been winning even more fans over with some fantastic live festival performances this year.  Their hard-edged amalgamation of big beats, massive guitars, and powerhouse hooks, merging the best of heavy rock and drum n bass in the process.

Recently, Pendulum made British headlines with their cover of Coldplay’s “Violet Hill” on Radio 1’s Live Lounge. The show itself dubbed it, “the best Live Lounge to date” and the track immediately earned itself a slot on the channel’s A-List alongside “Other Side,” the band’s current UK single.

American audiences received their first sample of Pendulum’s brand new sound when the band made a triumphant U.S. live debut at the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival this April.

Since their formation in 2002, Pendulum has caused quite the stir in both the hard rock and dance music communities around the world. The band’s 2005 debut, “HOLD YOUR COLOUR,” was an international breakout success, with sales in excess of 225,000 in the UK alone, where it still sits in the Top 40 album chart today.

“Granite,” a featured track on their current album, “IN SILICO,” topped the UK’s Dance chart while also reaching the UK top 30 Singles chart.

Pendulum are brilliant live!

Their frenetic drum n bass electronic and rock crossovers, has helped Pendulum emerge from the underground as the soundtrack to house parties everywhere.

Pendulum formed in their home-town of Perth (Western Australia) in 2002, when producers Rob Swire and Gareth McGrillen teamed up with acclaimed local DJ Paul ‘Elhornet’ Harding. While their individual formative roots ranged from producing drum n bass, breakbeat and hardcore, to playing in metal and punk bands, their comparable talents proved an unstoppable force when they managed to single-handedly conquer the world of drum & bass in their first 12 months together.

Grooverider, real name Raymond Bingham, was found guilty of possesion and also charged for bringing the drug into the UAE (United Arab Emirates).

He was originally arrested at Dubai airport on 23 November 2007 when a small bag of cannabis weighing 2.16g was found in his luggage.

According to The Guardian, at an earlier hearing Grooverider has stated in his defence that:

“The drugs were in my possession and I forgot I had them in my trousers.”

Grooverider began his dj career on the London pirate radio station Phase One during the mid 1980’s.

Fabio and Grooverider have been two of the most popular drum n bass dj’s since its the early 1990’s; and have been credited for helping to make drum n bass more accessible to a wider audience with their flagship radio 1 programme.

Grooverider has two weeks to appeal.
