secretsundaze and Electric Minds join forces for a special Easter Thursday Party with Morgan Geist, Nina Kraviz, Ilija Rudman & Ray Mang.

Room 1: secretsundaze w / Morgan Geist (Metro Area), Nina Kraviz (Rekids / Undeground Quality), Giles Smith and James Priestley

Room 2: Electric Minds w/ Ilija Rudman (Red Music), Ray Mang (DFA), Dolan Bergin

Secretsundaze are proud to announce details of our Easter Thursday party taking place in a hot new underground venue in the heart of Dalston.

This venue is fresh, only being utilised once before for an event. Taking place across 2 perfectly formed rooms working alongside our friends at Electric Minds this promises to the perfect way to start the Easter weekend.

In the secretsundaze room we have none other than Metro Area’s Morgan Geist. Morgan has already left a long lasting legacy to House, Disco and Techno with his groundbreaking work as Metro Area alongside Darshan Jesrani on his own Environ label.

A highly regarded DJ and remixer too, he has lent his touch to the likes of Hugh Maselka, Franz Ferdinand and Junior Boys and compiled and mixed a CD for the respected Fabric series.

Next, making her secretsundaze and indeed UK debut we are also very happy to have the female touch with Nina Kraviz joining us. Nina has made a big impact of late with her unique sound on Underground Quality and Rekids and on a recent trip to Moscow Giles was so impressed with her DJing skills and had to invite her to play in London. Her sound is a healthy dose of old school House mixed with newer styles. Do not miss this chance to check her out.

Of course secretsundaze all stars Giles and James will be present in the house.

Hosting the second room is London based label, Electric Minds. They welcome regular artist Ilija Rudman who has provided a constant stream of dance music under different guises.

In addition to releasing for Electric Minds you can find Ilija’s tracks being picked up by the likes of Under The Shade, Wolf Music, 2020 Vision and of course his own label Red Music.

In support is Ray Mang. Another talented musician and producer his productions have appeared on DFA as well as 2020 Vision who recently commissioned his excellent remix of 2020 Sound System’s “Ocean” which is due for release later this year.

Raj is also a stellar DJ and will no doubt be pulling out a few surprises from his huge record collection. Last up Electric Minds founder and resident Dolan Bergin steps up after recent gigs in Berlin and New York.

All in all this looks like one of the must go to parties of the Easter weekend with an amazing line up, the meeting of two of East London’s brightest stars secretsundaze and Elecric Minds and a brand new exciting venue. See you on the dancefloor.

Nearly a year after Damian Lazarus released his debut album ‘Smoke the Monster Out’ he offers us a re-release of one of the tracks ‘Diamonds in the Dark’ on the Get Physical label.

He releases the track as it is on the album but then offers us a reinterpretation of it by way of the Damian Lazarus club mix.

For those who caught his album last year, it was a wonderful delight of weird soundscapes, melodic peaceful moments and tripped out glitch.

The re-release of the one of the least ‘dance music’ orientated tracks from the album shows the breadth of Lazarus’s talent as a producer.

Where the original sounds like a country and western singer strumming on his guitar under a full moon when a space ship beams down and interjects into the track with synthed out vocals; the club mix pulls us back into familiar Lazarus electronic music territory.

Here the acoustic guitar is replaced with the same melody by way of programmed music. Loops provide the hypnotic perpetual motion of the track. The synthed vocals from the original get slowed down to create dirty disorientating electro.

Lazarus also includes French Producer dOP’s remix with the release. His interpretation sends the track into distorting and disturbing possible future sound of Techno to great effect.

Damian Lazarus, the head honcho of the Crosstown Rebels label shows in this re-working of his own track infinite skill in pushing dance music, in particular Techno, Electro and Glitch into the final frontier.

Mike Monday new single on Get Physical

Mike Monday’s new two-track release ‘Yoppul’ and ‘Touch’ for the Get Physical label emphasises the producer’s ability to blend dance music genres to create his own unique sound.

As developed in his last full-length album ‘Songs without Words Part 1’ on Om Records, he manipulates and contorts both programmed and live sound to add to the aural aesthetic.

Both of the tracks stand fairly firmly in the House camp and show a masterful understanding of the genre. ‘Yoppul’ is funk flavoured and percussion heavy. The driving mood is reminiscent of standing between three different sound stages at Notting Hill Carnival- a bit of a funky base line here, a steel drum coming over the top and a looping synthed sound meshing it all together.

This mish mash is perfectly constructed to create a stand out dance track for the summer.

With ‘Touch’ there seems to be a very intentional appropriation of Monday’s different influences in the execution of the track. What appears on first listening to be a fairly simply constructed piece of Deep House actually opens itself up throughout it’s seven minutes to indicate a huge amount of depth within it’s repetitive rhythms.

Snatches of Detroit Techno loops and early Derrick Carter vocal arrangements merge with a sound that seems to fit onto today’s dance floors with ease.

On Mike Monday’s myspace profile he sees appropriation as an important part to finding inspiration, ‘And don’t bother concealing your thievery – celebrate it if you feel like it. In any case, always remember what Jean-Luc Godard said: “It’s not where you take things from – it’s where you take them to.”’ With these two tracks Monday has drawn on his influences and his inspirations and turned them into two powerful pieces of music for you to shake your ass to in 2010.

A brand new club night from the people behind secretsundaze and need2soul is launching on November 14th at the new venue Lost In The Loft at a secret location in East London.

Giles Smith (secretsundaze) and Alex Ruello (Need 2 Soul) have announced details of their new party Lost in the Loft. With 15 years combined experienced in running some of London’s best nights they both know a thing or two about putting on a good party. Lost in The Loft will indeed be held in an East End loft. Details of the venue will be revealed in the coming weeks.

Resident Giles will be celebrating his birthday on the launch so who knows exactly what to expect, he will be joined on the night by the legendary Chez Damier from Chicago. Damier’s work with Ron Trent remains for many the best house music ever made.

Also guesting on the night is young hot shot Sven Weisemann (Mojuba). Sven shows great maturity for a producer / DJ of his age and his tracks vary from aquatic, warm, lush, dubby deep House to Detroit inspired grooves. His dj sets are much lauded and he plays regularly at the likes of Panorama and Tape in Berlin.

Lost in The Loft will provide a sanctuary to hear some of the finest deep House and Techno in one very special space. Don’t miss it!

Renaissance: The Masters Series – Dave Seaman

Dave Seaman returns once again to Renaissance with a sublime 32 track double CD DJ mix.

DJ Dave Seaman is one of the best when it comes to smooth mixing of a wide spectrum of music. His incredible depth of experience, remaining as meticulous as ever in his track selection, incredible ear for harmonic mixing and natural feel for programming.

Renaissance: The Masters Series Part 14 finds Seaman in a rich vein of form as he draws upon the scenes best talent.

Disc One treads along a more eclectic path taking in Four Tet, Ben Watt, Moby and Spooky before culminating in Dave’s own twist on Ewan Pearson’s lauded re-work of Jon Hopkins blissful anthem ‘Light Through The Veins’.

Disc Two intros with UNKLE’s Hold My Hand (Innervisions Orchestra Dub Mix) and takes more of a peak-time high road, picking-up hitchhikers in the form of Guy J, Agoria, Radio Slave and Nic Fanciulli before bundling them all out to make way for the heavy hitting finale of Gui Boratto’s Adam Freeland remix.

As ever, the unique bag of editing, additional production and sampler effects has been expertly woven throughout the mix.

Dave Seaman explains “There’s so much additional production and ‘nipping and tucking’ editing going on it’s difficult to highlight it all! We’ve credited certain parts where the results are obvious (the UNKLE acapella over a heavily chopped-up Andre Winter track and the additional drums, bass and female vocal on Jon Hopkins for example), but the whole album almost became like one long track to be honest, such was the care and attention that went into it. I hope it shines through…”

Dave Seaman – Renaissance: The Masters Series Part 14 is yet another musical chapter that will define and stand the test of time – an essential listen to brighten up your Autumn days as the dark nights draw in.

Renaissance: The Masters Series – Dave Seaman is now available via Renaissance Records.

Boredoms – Super Roots 10 – EP review

Boredoms, the boundary- breaking, sonic-shifting, head-messing group are releasing the Super Roots 10 EP through Thrill Jockey, only available as a limited double 12” release. Super Roots 10 is produced by EYE, who equally created the artwork accompanying the release.

This new Boredoms EP includes a remix of the Antz 10 track by Lindstom, the critically acclaimed Norwegian dance/house producer who has remixed a whole host of artists, including Franz Ferdinand and LCD Soundsystem. Super Roots 10 also includes a remix from the Japanese artist Altz.

Ant 10 Original is nine minutes of buzzing, tribal, rhythmic intensity, with a small thirty second break in between. The drums are thick and saturate the track, as do the drones. The Mineral Dub Break Remix is almost unrecognisable whilst Linstrom does another full overhaul on his remix, bringing in some crisper beats, subtle 80s synths and keyboards, making the pounding drums part of the background arrangements. His style from his recent collaboration with Prins Thomas is certainly recognisable.

A studio album can be expected in 2010, whilst Boredoms member Yoshimi P-We is to release her new album with OOIOO entitled Armonico Hewa on Thrill Jockey in November.

Track listing for Super Roots 10:

1. ANT 10
2. ANT 10 / ESTEREO 10 (REMIX BY ALTZ)
3. ANT 10 (REMIX BY DJ LINDSTROM)
4. ANT 10 / MINERAL DUB BREAK (REMIX BY ALTZ)

Loose club night returns on 3rd October 2009 with resident DJs plus special guest Geoffroy Mugwump.

Geoffroy aka Mugwump (Cocoon / Kompakt / Eskimo / Gigolo)
Paul Crognale & Cred (Loose / Electric Minds)
Aitch (Moustache Mamas / Loose)

Loose returns to East London after a well deserved summer break which saw the resident DJ team appear in basements, lofts and clubs all over east London with friends including Electric Minds, East Village and Another Fine Mess.

In the recent past Loose embraced the nu-disco and edit scene and brought names like Ilija Rudman, Popular People’s Front, Peter Visti and Aeroplane to London. Now the team are introducing a futuristic disco ethic with a deeper house sound that is beginning to infiltrate many a Dalston dance floor.

Expect some groove induced techno-disco, low slung house, spacey edits and reworks.

Geoffroy Mugwump has been big on the European house and disco scene for a few years now, holding a residency at Belgian club Fuse and producing (with production partner Kolombo) a reworked house sound that only a small elite of future thinking artists are achieving. Think Tensnake, Sound Stream, Mark E and The Revenge and you will be on the right track.

Amazing tracks such as Boutade on Misericord and Fears Inc on Kompakt have really shown the way forward and with Cocoon picking up this talent with the recent Mindflexes release we can be sure of a certain style and groove at Loose that is not really being done elsewhere.

It’s disco but not as you know it.

Now hot on the heels of Joris Voorn’s stunning 100+ track instalment; EQ Recordings returns to the global stage in October 2009 with Balance 015.

With a their reputation for securing sublime, forward-thinking DJ’s that best represent the ever-changing nature of dance music and the shape of things to come it’s little wonder that as the Balance Series has grown in notoriety over recent years, so too has the interest from fans and artists in who will be chosen to take control of the next groundbreaking mix.

For Balance 015 mixing duties have been handed to the master of the Deep, Will Saul.

Since making himself known through winning Muzik Magazine’s Bedlam Bedroom mixtape competition in 2000, Will Saul has risen through the ranks of the dance music elite to firmly establish himself as DJ, Producer and A&R manager.

As a DJ, Will’s trademark penchant for the deep, melodic and hypnotic realms of ‘discohousetechno’ have seen him tour the world and hold key residencies at London clubbing institutions like The End and Cable.

As a Producer, Will’s insatiable appetite for forging infectious grooves intertwined with deep, lush audioscapes has seen him not only forge a high-end catalogue of originals to date (including ‘Tic Toc’, ‘Fast Lane’ and ‘Love The Scary’), but earn remix duties for fellow kings of the underground like Phonique, Jesse Rose, Marc Romboy, Manuel Tur and Steve Lawler.

Will Saul’s Balance 015 will follow the creative path and musical integrity that has become synonymous with Balance releases, devoted to bringing listeners, fans and followers unique mixes and sonic experiences that both capture the spirit of a moment and stand the test of time.

Tom Middleton – One More Tune released on Renaissance

Tom Middleton is a pioneering electronic producer and DJ who needs little introduction. Renowned worldwide for his visionary projects as Global Communication, Jedi Knights, Cosmos, AMBA and others, he’s been responsible for landmark productions, compilations and Essential Mixes.

Tom Middleton has dj’d and remixed such varied artists as Aphex Twin, Duran Duran, Mark Ronson and Faithless. In 2009 alone, he has remixed Razorlight, The Verve and The Presets.

Kicking off with an incredible remix of the seminal Last Rhythm, superstar DJ Tom Middleton’s latest album is a 15 track upbeat mix. One More Tune has a fresh-faced 1990’s house flavour that makes me smile…and I’m loving it.

One More Tune is a celebration of new and undiscovered end of night anthems blended with some well known classics. Crucially, nearly all have been remixed (or as we’re calling them, remodeled) and digitally re-edited, then mixed in key groups at 128bpm.

Tom Middleton say, “I’ve had 20 years of spinning and dancing to those classic finales. Dropping everything from the original Motown Don’t Leave Me This Way to the universally classic Balearic You Got The Love, or a techno sub-bass whopper like Diabla to a shouty Brit Pop guitar rockout like Song Two, or perhaps a Drum n Bass rewind killer like Adam F’s Circles. You go with your instinct, and either select a stone cold classic or drop in a total curve ball. I love to spin people out with a monstrous, all singing and pogoing anthem, such as The Prodigy’s Out Of Space complete with corny fader rides in the chorus and then bolt on the very last bar of the Grange Hill Theme, afterall it is home time!”

Middleton went on to explain his remixing style for the album. “My remix style [for One More Tune] seems to be a fusion of deep house and melodic techno with a clear nod to the early 90’s. For some reason I just can’t help but build those hands in the air moments into each track!”
