MOBSCENE

On December 10th, two leading forces from the dubstep scene unite, for TRIBE presents Never Say Die & Circus – a night of big bass, deep dub and forward-thinking underground music. And with a huge lineup, this is one night you can’t afford to miss…

Coming to The Electric, Brixton, dubstep powerhouses Circus Records and Never Say Die Records bring together two of the freshest and most exciting rosters in dubstep. Innovators in the scene, and home to inspirational, forward-thinking and LOUD bass music, Circus Records and Never Say Die Records have released some of the biggest underground anthems of the past couple of years. And together they present a lineup that’s going to smash it up!

From the Never Say Die camp come critically acclaimed rap, grime and dubstep act Foreign Beggars, who bring their frenetic live show to the night. Fresh from collaborations with the likes of Mensah and Skrillex, as well as Noisia, and more, Foreign Beggars (Metropolis, Orifice Vulgatron, DJ Nonames) are as unpredictable as they are prolific. They’re known for producing energetic live shows, and rumbling beats that drive dancefloors into a frenzy, so this time Foreign Beggars are pulling out all the stops.

And it’s a ‘battle of the bosses’, as, Circus Records’ Flux Pavillion and Never Say Die’s SKisM play an exclusive back2back set. Following the release of their collaborative single with Foreign Beggars ‘Jump Back’, (released on November 28th) the two label bosses are lining up something very special.

The two camps are bringing in the reinforcements, with plenty of huge support coming from both rosters. We have Circus Records dons Slum Dogz (Swan-E, Doctor P and Krafty MC) and Funtcase, playing back2back. And from Never Say Die we have troopers Dodge & Fuski, who are releasing ‘Python/What Do You Know’ on December 12th, and Zomboy whose remix of Nadia Ali, Starkillers & Alex Kenji – ‘Pressure’ is coming on November 21st. Between them these two have put out some of the biggest jump up records of this year!

Plus Urban Nerds boys Rattus Rattus and Klose One and electro heads Mobscene (‘High/Graceful Destruction’ released November 28th) are coming along for the ride.

Visuals come from Fade In Fade Out, an Audio Visual collective from London. Their approach is an intensive mash-up of stark graphic icons, shapes and deconstructed imagery, and it’s seen them work on shows with Skream, Benga, Rusko, Basment Jaxx, Funkagenda, Annie Mac, Jack Beats, and Stanton Warriors.

With Tribe presents Never Say Die & Circus, Circus and Never Say Die are taking bass next level. Bringing together a massive lineup and sleek production – this event will blow your mind.

Ahead of the forthcoming Electro versus Dubstep night at London’s KOKO club we take a look at the clash of the genres in the run up to Steve Aoki’s exclusive London show on 10th September.

In recent years electro has noticeably evolved from acts like Daft Punk, through to much more bass-driven dubstep acts like Bar 9, Flux Pavilion and Skrillex. Years go by, and people continually strive for something different, something new, which has resulted in electro developing a much darker tone.

Whether the dirtier sounds are a by product keeping in line with the pace of life or it be something that deserves to be noticed rather than kept underground, the power of electronic music today is undeniable with the strength to be uplifting, haunting and mesmerising all at the same time.

This development in electro goes hand in hand with the filthier sounds that dubstep artists are producing today. Skrillex has skillfully taken elements from all these different electronic movements to create something which he calls electro-house-dubstep, a genre that is currently exploding, and is destined for even greater things.

Ever since Skrillex’s laptops were stolen, there has been a handful of leaks and releases of unfinished tracks. The fascination and buzz behind these unfinished tracks proves the potential of what the reaction would have been like, had his dubstep / house infusion been fully produced.

It’s fair to say that as the world of dubstep continues to expand, more and more artists are crossing over into the genre. Holding onto their electro roots, but making that transition into a new realm, creating a synthesis of the two genre’s. Skrillex is a perfect example of that but so is Steve Aoki.

Despite having an altogether different sound to Skrillex, Steve Aoki manages to keep his foot firmly in the electro door, whilst pushing his sound more and more towards the dirtier and darker sounds that we would now associate with dubstep. Steve Aoki develops his own dark electro productions, and has remixed some of today’s biggest artists.

Who’s to say where these genre’s are headed, the more artists that collaborate across genres, the more likely it is that this new electro-house-dubstep will expand to a point of domination in today’s electronic music industry. That’s certainly an exciting prospect.

With this in mind, party pioneers The Playground decided that it only made sense to embrace some of the industries dirtiest dubstep acts, with some of the hottest producers working on the darker side of electro for a single line-up at Camden’s infamous KOKO on Saturday the 10th September.

Steve Aoki will headline this exclusive one off show in his only London appearance of the year. He’ll have support from an eclectic mix of some of today’s hottest electro and dubstep producers, including Modestep, Does It Offend You, Yeah?, Mixhell, Bar 9, Roksonix, Genetix and Autoerotique.

KOKO
1a Camden High Street
London
NW1 7JE.

Doors open at 9pm and tickets are on sale now via www.theplayground.co.uk.

nofitstate @ Barabar on Saturday 16th July with DJ’s Geddes (mulletover), Dolan Bergin (electric minds) & special guest Tornado Wallace (Delusions Of Grandeur).

The notfitstate events have been a breath of fresh in an over-saturated scene, helping to re-instate intimate parties where music and atmosphere are paramount. Tucked away in the east-end’s prime basements, carrying their own rough charm, we’ve been kept warm throughout winter to the beats of Tensnake, Dyed Soundorom, FCL and Roman Flugel. As we step into summer, the light shines brighter for nofitstate and welcomes to the fold Tornado Wallace, Dolan Bergin, Geddes and a special surprise guest.

In the wake of Lovebox’s daytime shenanigans, Geddes and Dolan come together once again to step up to the decks, and continue the party on a more intimate level for revelers and friends alike. Both DJ’s will come fresh from hosting their own stage (Geddes with mulletover, Dolan with Electric Minds/Warm) at Victoria Park’s one-day festival, bringing the best bits with them for those wanting more.

Skillfully blending a hybrid of house, techno and deep groove with the slinky disco player, Tornado Wallace will be joining as headline guest. Hailing from Melbourne, the Australian wunderkind delivered three standout releases last year; his Never Dies EP on Sleazy Beats followed by the triumphant Paddlin’ EP and ‘Always Twirling’on, both on Jimpster’s Delusions Of Grandeur imprint, promoted Wallace to the premier league of deep house and disco. He’s the alter ego of Lewie Day who released on murmur’s sub label murmur-?, ‘That’s The Thing’ which went on to be one of their biggest hits.

London’s ReviveHER joins forces with Manchester based Naïve Melody on May 28th at Dalston Superstore, with a baptism that couldn’t be more akin musically to both parties if they tried. With over 5 years of successful parties under their belt, Naïve Melody made a name for themselves as one of the North-West’s most infamous hotspots thanks to their anything goes music policy and nascent free party spirit in a Chinese karaoke bar in Manchester’s gay village. Promoter Elliott Mess is doing the dirty on his Northern allies, is migrating South to the capital to join Superstore favourites ReviveHER.

To celebrate their first party together at everyone’s favourite Dalston hangout they have chosen friends and world class record collectors Tiago and DJ Kaos (T + K) to fly over from their native Lisbon and Berlin respectively, to spin back to back, from the very beginning to the very end of the night.

Tiago has amassed a fantastic discography since his first solo release in 2007 on labels such as Italians Do it Better (as T + K – Tiago and Kaos), DFA, Hands of Time, and Eskimo to name a few. He’s also the go to man of the moment for remixes, with his edits and productions being praised and supported from the likes of Rub N Tug to Andew Weatherall. However, it’s his long standing weekend residency at infamous Lux in Lisbon and reputation as a DJ that attracted our attention. Sets as long as 6 hours + aren’t uncommon, where techno, house, Dub, leftfield rock and disco all have a place on the dancefloor.

DJ Kaos’ music career spans two decades, with releases on Compost, Rong, DFA, Clone and Italians Do It Better not to mention his eclectic DJ mix released on the infamous DJ Kicks series and two compilations/mixes with Liquid Liquid legend Sal P, on Faith Recordings and Skylax Records. His reputation as a producer and man of great and varied taste, has earned him remixes for the likes of Roxy Music (Bryan Ferry), Klein + MBO to NYC post punk revivers !!! (chk chk chk). And Kaos ain’t called Kaos for nuthin. With his reputation for being a kaotic party trooper and throwing the most unpredictable stunts as well as killing it behind the DJ booth, we’re extremely excited to see what happens at the party, or more likely, at the after party.

Tiago and Kaos have an acclaimed reputation across America and Japan. Now it’s time for Dalston! An unmissable opportunity to see these two DJs / producers play together in such an intimate space in London. Upstairs will feature NM and RH residents Bi-Bop and Elliott Mess battling it out for winning sounds throughout the night along with guest and Superstore Guvnor Dan Beaumont.

Electric Minds presents this year’s set of loft parties taking place in its usual home in Shoreditch, East London. The series began with a sell out party on the 9th April and returns on 14th May with the mighty Workshop Records and special guests Kassem Mosse and Even Tuell.

Workshop Records is one today’s most respected underground labels with releases from Move D, Fred P, Lowtec, & Kassem Mosse to name but a few. With their records released in generic sleeves, often without titles and artwork this is a record label that lets the music do the talking.

Gunnar Wendel aka Kassem Mosse is one of the most respected new wave of house & techno producers. Omar S was so impressed with his “578” track that he decided to produce two remixes whilst travelling through Berlin and it was this release that Resident Advisor picked as one of its top tracks of 2010. Kassem Mosse’s remix of Commix’s “Need To Feel” was Juno Plus’s No 1 track of 2010 showing why his productions are as popular with the dubstep fraternity as they are in the house and techno world.

Kassem Mosse will play a special live set alongside label mate Even Tuell and is joined by Paul Crognale and label owner Dolan Bergin. As usual our Funktion One sound system is installed for all of the loft parties.

These parties always sell out in advance and demand for Kassem Mosse’s appearance is high so it is highly advisable to purchased in advance from Resident Advisor.

Future Loft Party guests include Prosumer, Move D, We Play House, GHL plus many more.

BeatBlenderz aka DJ Zohm and DJ Alexis Pattersun have released this very sassy and provocative EP ‘Talk To Me Dirty’ released on Beatport by Sajgon Records. The EP consists of 3 tracks that will seduce and delight all you bassline, groove junkie, Tech House dance freaks out there.

BeatBlenderz are two highly talented Belgian DJ’s; DJ Alexis Pattersun with his pure and groovy musical preferences and DJ Zohm with his 3 decades of turntable techniques and a wide range of musical experiences. These two ”wheels of steel freaks” deliver more rhythmical extra’s than you have ever absorbed before, without the loss or forgetting the warmness and originality that electronic music can express.

These guys are known for building more than just a regular party; every night is another story, a souvenier , a sound and loop collage of the finest sounds. Some DJ’s fear them because of their provocative “mind blasting” spinning. Others love them because of their original approxiative way of serving music to an insatiable dance crowd. Sometimes with a slice of self made samples or film-text-anecdotes, sometimes with crazy sounds or test-records, the sky has no limits for BeatBlenderz. Venues the Beatblenderz play at:
NOXX, Cafe Capital, Stereo Sushi, Suite 16 (Ghent), Absinthbar, Industria, La Dolce Vita, Soul Environment, Nasty, Decadence (Ghent), Reservoir Docks, Aquaflowers, Australian Bar, Wonder Festival, ELECTRIFIED, Rozafa, Bar Tabac are just a few to mention.

‘Talk To Me Dirty’ EP is not for the prudish or faint hearted. It’s an EP for all the liberated souls who dare to ‘dance like there is no tomorrow’ and definitely ’sing like no one is listening’! Track 1 of the EP ‘Talk To Me Dirty’ (Original Mix) is a cocktail of exquisite vocals, whipped to perfection with some delicious synth spank beats and a sensual bassline rhythm that may well have you heading for the fridge for some whipped cream; or maybe for the deliciously daring some B&J’s ice cream, just to help excite the parts other beats have failed to reach!

Track 2 ‘Talk To Me Dirty’ (Gemini Jack Remix) leaves me no option but to say “Thank you very much boyz, I don’t mind if I do”! This track teases and tantalises the senses with it’s powerful bassline that grabs you from behind, penetrates and vibrates the vertebrae, sending rhythmic beat sensations throughout the whole of the body, almost demanding you to scream out for more - it doesn’t get much dirtier than that! Gemini Jack aka Jan Tassier from Antwerp Belgium, is evidently a very talented DJ/Producer. BeatBlenderz were delighted to have him mix their track, as he is one of their favourite producers.

Talk to me (dirty) by Beatblenderz - Gemini Jack remix by Gemini Jack

The final track of the EP ‘Body Hop’ (Body Check Remix) is another sensual stunner. It has sassy rhythm and beats and stunning synths that are addictive, captivating and will definitely get the clubbers heading toward the dance floor for a body check.

‘Talk To Me Dirty’ is an excellent and powerful Tech House EP and will without doubt be one of many record label and Beatport releases for the brilliant DJ duo BeatBlenderz.
