A Slave To Commitment by Applescal

A Slaves Commitment, the debut LP released by Applescal, Holland based producer 21 year old Pascal Terstappen, displays musical sophistication beyond his experience.  He traverses from click/ glitch house (Track 12 Reeeer) to haunting cinematic soundscapes (Track 5 In Her Own Ears) via groovy electro-clash styled base lines similar to Tiga (Track 3 Ugly but Nasty).  Yet the unifying sound is pure up to the minute electronica.

His release has been put out by the Cologne label Traum best known for their releases by Nathan Fake, Audio Werner, Jeff Samuel and Oliver Hacke.. Traum is one of five labels run by Riley Reinhold and Jacqueline Klein.  This particular imprint of theirs is the most diverse and removed from the dance floor context.  The evidence of this is Applescal’s fantastically varied album.  Reinhold felt that, ‘we were attracted by the approach of releasing a full long player by a very young talented person who has more to say than a dozen 12-inches could actually carry.’

The biggest nod to date from the music world is from Laurent Garnier describing the album as, “This is a very, VERY good album. Very cinematic at some points, very musical, raw, organic…” It is very good, very good indeed and points towards a bright future for the young bedroom producer.

Remixes by Max Cooper and Arjuna Schiks of one of the tracks ‘In The Mirror’ are already out on Traum.
